The challenge

An E&P operator managing high-density shale assets was hemorrhaging capital through supply chain desynchronisation — trying to coordinate high-cost service contracts against actual wellhead readiness.

A five-to-seven day data lag on pad clearance translated directly into $40,000 per day of idle rig standby fees. Crews and equipment were mobilised against a picture of the field that was already a week old.

Three structural gaps destroyed scheduling efficiency: no current view of which pads were physically clear, no early warning when site preparation slipped, and no way to reconcile field reports against what was actually on the ground.

What we built

  1. 01

    Pad state detection

Satellite and aerial imagery across the operator's acreage is processed on a recurring cadence to detect the physical state of each pad — clearance, equipment presence, and stage of site preparation.

  2. 02

    Change detection between passes

Each capture is compared against the previous one, so progress and slippage surface as changes rather than as a report someone has to write. Movement on a pad becomes a dated, located event.

  3. 03

    Scheduling signal

Detected readiness is delivered into the operator's scheduling workflow, so rig and service mobilisation is triggered by observed site state instead of a week-old field report.

What came out of it

  • The five-to-seven day pad clearance lag was closed.
  • Rig mobilisation aligned to observed readiness rather than stale reporting.
  • $40,000 per day in idle standby exposure addressed at its source.
